Trading signals: what to look for in a signal service

Signal services are everywhere – and unfortunately so are dubious providers with unrealistic promises. To help you tell the serious ones from the rest, here are the 7 most important criteria to check before you spend money on signals.

1. Real transparency, not just winners

The most important point: does the provider show its full history – including losing trades? Anyone who only posts winners and hides losses is a red flag. An honest performance overview with winners and losers is a must.

2. Clearly defined trades

A usable signal always contains three things: entry, stop-loss and target. Without a stop-loss it is not a signal, it is a gamble. Without defined risk you cannot size your position.

3. Realistic win rates

Win rates of "95%+" are almost always cherry-picked or based on tiny partial targets. The risk-reward ratio matters more than the raw win rate: even a 50% win rate is profitable if wins are bigger than losses.

4. No profit promises

"Double your account in 30 days" – anyone advertising like that is selling dreams, not signals. Serious providers make no profit promises and clearly state the risk of loss.

5. A method you can follow

Do you understand how the signals are generated? A clear method – such as a rule-based scanner for Wolfe Waves – is more trustworthy than a "secret strategy" no one can explain.

6. Fair, cancellable pricing

Serious services are cancellable monthly and hide no costs. Large one-off payments or long lock-in periods are a bad sign.

7. A free preview

Can you form an opinion before buying? A provider that shows you free sample signals has nothing to hide.

Important: No signal service – not even one with a good history – replaces your own risk management. A signal is only the idea; position size and risk remain your responsibility. This article is not investment advice.
